Introversion is at the heart of Joe Hunt's music. He rarely performs live, preferring the solitude of his home studio. His lyrics—when they can be understood—are rich with ambiguous metaphors, open to countless interpretations, while their true meaning remains known only to him.

His debut release, the 11-track album Phosphenes (October 2023), is a mellow yet mind-bending dive into folktronica, drawing comparisons to the likes of Alt-Jand Radiohead. Its sonic consistency and unique voice showcase a remarkable maturity for a debut album.

His EP, Lightness and Weight, featured an original composition for string orchestra, performed by The RNCM Brand New String Ensemble and recorded in early 2024, alongside two multitrack electric cello compositions.

By refusing to conform to any genre, Joe has proven himself an experimenter—but not a haphazard one. His music is meticulously crafted, from evocative background textures to foreground to the finest ASMR details. A sense of depth and space is paramount in his work, with sounds ranging from close and intimate to distant and expansive.

Alongside his solo ventures, Joe writes scores for film and video games, and performs and produces with his band Signifying Nothing. He also produces music for a growing roster of artists, including Truthpaste, Jay Brom and Valette Ensemble.

UPCOMING RELEASE: Panopticon 2025

Panopticon is poised to push the boundaries of what has been achieved within the bedroom artist subculture, blending symphonic orchestral writing with emotive, harmony-driven songwriting. Joe seeks to bridge the gap between his previous folktronica and orchestral releases, Phosphenes, and Lightness and Weight.

Every sound on the album is produced using only voice, guitar, violin, or cello, with recordings of cellist Susannah Roman and violinist Rory Masterson layered into immersive orchestral arrangements and dynamic rhythmic sections.
